About Judy Westerfield
Judy Westerfield has been a Marriage, Family Therapist in private practice in Laguna Niguel, California since 1986. She specializes in using hypnotherapy and guided imagery to help people MAXimize health, happiness & well-being. Therapists and health care professionals refer clients to her for short term help as an adjunct to their own treatment. Known for her humor and energy, she is an experienced educator and seminar leader who has conducted workshops in both the public and private sector for over 30 years. She was the founding coordinator of the Long Beach Jewish Family Service Rape Trauma Counseling Program.
Specialized Hypnosis Training
Certified in clinical Hypnosis in 1988, she has taken specialized training in Ericksonian Hypnosis and has studied with Michael Yapko, Ph.D. an internationally known Ericksonian hypnotherapist.
Faculty Member, Academy for Guided Imagery
As a senior faculty member with the Academy for Guided Imagery since 1989, Judy has trained hundreds of health care professionals: medical doctors, LCSW’s, MFT’s psychologists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, body-workers and physical therapists from all over the United States in the use of Interactive Guided Imagery(sm) for mind-body health and healing. Her mentors and instructors are David Bresler, Ph.D., and Marty Rossman, M.D., internationally known for their pioneering work in mind-body healing and Interactive Guided Imagery(sm).
Leader Against Pain
The National Fibromyalgia Association honored her as one of 35 people in the United States as a 2005 and 2006 "Leader Against Pain" for her work. As a result of that honor Judy developed and facilitates In the Face of Pain, community outreach creative expression workshops for people with life-altering medical conditions.
Creative Expression Facilitator
A passion of hers (besides her dog Max) is the role creative expression plays in healing and wellness, particularly the visual arts and imagery. She is a California CEU provider for LCSWs and MFTs. Her creative expression workshops are known for their fun.
She is a certified instructor for the non-profit organization Art & Creativity for Healing, facilitating free painting workshops for children & adults suffering from illness, grief or stress. Judy received it’s community volunteer award in 2002 and 2006 .
Education & Professional Associations
Before beginning a career as a therapist Judy was a public school teacher and administrator. After graduating from The University of California, Berkeley in English Literature she went on to get Master’s Degrees from California State University, Dominguez Hills in both education and clinical psychology.
She is a member of PSI CHI - National Honor Society in Psychology, California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Orange County Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Long Beach – South Bay Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the International Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy.
